Why Your Brain Feels Tired Even When Your Body Isn't

You got eight hours of sleep.

You did not go for a run.

By 2 p.m. Your brain feels really tired.

It feels like your brain is not working properly.

If you have ever sat in front of your laptop, could not understand what you were reading or if you went into a room and forgot what you wanted to do .

Then you have felt mental fatigue.

Mental fatigue is happening to a lot of people now.

The Modern Kind of Exhaustion

Unlike being physically tired, mental fatigue doesn't always show up with eyes or sore muscles.

It can sneak up on you in ways like:

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feeling like your brain is cloudy

  • Getting irritable easily

  • Lacking motivation

  • Forgetting things

  • Feeling drained from making decisions

Your body might feel great. Your brain just doesn't feel right.

You're Probably Not Resting Your Brain

You get a lot of things competing for your attention like videos that just keep going, notifications, emails and messages.

These things make your brain jump from one task to another every minute.

This is a reason why a lot of people feel really tired these days.

Your brain is always working, it never really stops.

Social media is one of the things that can make your brain feel this way because it is always asking for your attention.

Your brain never gets a break when you are on social media.

Stress Doesn't Always Feel Like Stress

From the moment you wake up in the morning your brain starts making lots of decisions.

By the evening something simple can feel really overwhelming.

This feeling is not because you are being lazy.

It is because of something called overload, which is when your brain gets tired from making too many decisions about things, like what to wear and what to eat and which meeting comes first and whether you should work out or not and this is what happens when you have cognitive overload.

Signs Your Brain Needs Recovery

Mental fatigue usually shows up before fatigue.

Some common signs of fatigue include:

  • You have to read the paragraph over and over again because you just cannot seem to understand what it is saying.

  • You keep forgetting simple things, like where you put your keys.

  • You put off doing tasks that you normally like to do.

  • You have time to pay attention when people are talking to you.

  • You feel like you are really busy. You are not getting anything done.

If these things sound like what you're going through then your brain is probably telling you that it needs to rest, not that it needs more coffee.

A Better Way to Think About Wellness

Wellness is not about having more energy.

It is about having a mind that's calm, thoughts that are clear and focus that is sharp.

This helps you to be fully present, in the moments that really matter to you.

At VARAÉ we think that wellness should take care of your body and your mind.

When your mind is balanced your body and everything else will start to feel better.
